FANTASY BASEBALL
News: Sabathia (knee) will make his spring training debut Tuesday, the Yankees' official site reports. (Fri Mar 13)
Spin: Sabathia made it through a simulated game Thursday unscathed, clearing the final hurdle before finally returning to the mound. Assuming all goes as planned, he could be ready for Opening Day, giving the Yankees another needed arm to begin the season.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: Sabathia made only eight starts in 2014 before his season ended due to knee surgery, and the stats from those few outings are a bit all over the place. He was striking out 23 percent of the batters he faced and was allowing fewer walks than he had in years. On the flip side, Sabathia had a .353 BABIP, and a whopping one in four fly balls he permitted went over the wall, which led to the worst ERA and WHIP of his career. His average velocity has declined in each of the past six seasons, so his fastball now lives in the low 90s rather than the mid-90s. A healthy knee should allow him to recover some of his lost fantasy value, but he's no longer a staff ace in fantasy or reality.
