Aaron Hill tied a career high with four RBIs, including a three-run homer, and Ender Inciarte made two catches against the outfield wall to help the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the reeling Colorado Rockies 13-7 in a doubleheader opener Wednesday.
Rain postponed the first two games of the series, and another storm was expected later. When not getting washed out, the Rockies have been outscored 60-24 in losing six straight.
Josh Collmenter (3-3) gave up five runs in seven innings, including three homers.
Tyler Matzek (2-1) allowed four runs in two innings and matched a career high with six walks in his first start since leaving an April 27 outing at Arizona with a hamstring cramp.
Hill had four RBIs in a game for the eighth time the first since Aug. 11, 2013, against the New York Mets. The Diamondbacks tied a season high with 18 hits.
Mark Trumbo hit a two-run homer and an RBI double, and Yasmany Tomas finished with three RBI singles. Inciarte added four hits, and his biggest contribution was with his glove.
Inciarte caught a deep drive by Nick Hundley against the left-field wall in the fifth. Then, moving over to right as part of a switch, Inciarte made another grab against the wall in the seventh to rob Charlie Blackmon of extra bases.
Justin Morneau and Hundley had solo homers for Colorado. Pinch-hitter Drew Stubbs connected for a two-run homer in the eighth, which chased Collmenter.
TRAINER'S ROOM
Diamondbacks: Manager Chip Hale isn't sure when Patrick Corbin (elbow) will pitch again after the left-hander threw three innings Tuesday in an extended spring training game. "I think they might be giving him six days," Hale said. ... Hale had no update on 3B Jake Lamb (left foot stress reaction), who recently was cleared to walk on a treadmill.
Rockies: Closer Adam Ottavino (elbow) was scheduled to meet with Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday. Ottavino is concerned he will need season-ending Tommy John surgery. "Could be a long road ahead," manager Walt Weiss said. "But he's ready for that." ... RHP LaTroy Hawkins (biceps tendinitis) was slated to resume throwing Wednesday. "We're not rushing this thing," Hawkins said.
UP NEXT
Diamondbacks: Lefty Robbie Ray will be added to the roster before the second game. He's scheduled to be sent back to Triple-A Reno following his start.
Rockies: Jordan Lyles (2-2, 4.25 ERA) will start the second game. He took the loss when the Rockies played in Arizona last Wednesday. The right-hander is 1/3 with a 7.07 ERA in seven starts against Arizona.
