SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Yasmany Tomas had three hits after sitting out for nearly two weeks with a sore left knee and Paul Goldschmidt hit his first home run this spring, leading the Arizona Diamondbacks over the Los Angeles Dodgers 11-8 Friday.
Tomas, starting his second season in Arizona, had two singles and a double. The Cuban is expected to receive a lot of time in left field this season.
Goldschmidt, hitting a solid .300 entering the game, connected for a two-run, opposite-field shot in the fifth inning after striking out in two of his first three at-bats.
"I had a few good swings earlier in the game and just fouled them off," he said. "It was good to see the ball go over."
Welington Castillo kept up his hot streak for the Diamondbacks, driving in three runs. He hit his eighth double of the spring.
STARTING TIME
Dodgers: RHP Brandon Beachy, making his second start and third appearance overall, had five shutout innings coming in but this outing wasn't as productive.
After a scoreless first, he gave up a total of six runs on five hits in next two innings.
Diamondbacks: RHP Zack Godley gave up seven runs on seven hits, including home runs by Yasmani Grandal and Howie Kendrick, in 3 1/3 innings.
"I was trying to get command of the bottom half of the zone but I left some pitches up and they took advantage of it," Godley said.
TRAINER'S ROOM
Dodgers: RF Andre Ethier fouled a pitch off his lower right leg, just above the ankle, in the fourth and had to leave the game after he walked. His status for the coming days is uncertain.
Diamondbacks: Tomas said his knee feels good.
"It's difficult (to sit out), but I tried not to think about it too much," Tomas said through a translator. "The trainers have done a good job with the knee."
As for his hitting, he said, "It feels good. If the ball comes in the strike zone, I just swing."
UP NEXT
Dodgers: Ace Clayton Kershaw starts against Chris Sale and the Chicago White Sox.
Diamondbacks: The team has a day-night, split-squad doubleheader. Ace Zack Greinke pitches the day portion against a split-squad Texas club. Arizona also has a night game against Seattle, with Tyler Wagner starting against Felix Hernandez.
