Brandon Barnes finished off a difficult at-bat with his first run-scoring hit of the season.
Barnes hit a tie-breaking two-run triple in the eighth inning, lifting the Colorado Rockies past the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-5 on Friday night.
"It was great to drive those runs in," Barnes said. "I was just trying to put a good swing on the ball. I battled. I was down 1-2, fought off a pitch and just got a pitch where I was looking. I didn't try to do to much with it."
Nolan Arenado and Ryan Raburn homered for the Rockies, who have won their last four games against the Dodgers.
Adrian Gonzalez homered and singled to drive in three runs and Corey Seager hit a two-run homer as part of a three-run first inning for the Dodgers.
Trailing 5-4, the Rockies evened the score on D.J. LeMahieu's sacrifice fly in the seventh. Arenado drew a one-out walk in the eighth off Chris Hatcher (2-2) and Mark Reynolds singled up the middle. One out later, Barnes, who entered as a pinch runner in the seventh for Raburn and scored the tying run, tripled off the wall in right-centerfield to drive in his first runs of the season.
"I thought he was fine," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of Hatcher. "He made a good walk to Arenado and then there was a broken-bat single. I liked the matchup against Barnes. He got ahead of him 1-2 and didn't execute a pitch."
Chad Qualls (1-0) pitched a scoreless eighth and Jake McGee got three outs for his fourth save in as many opportunities.
The Dodgers jumped on Jon Gray, who was making his 2016 debut after beginning the season on the 15-day disabled list because of an abdominal strain.
Chase Utley led off the first inning with a triple and Seager sent an 0-1 pitch into the stand of evergreens beyond the wall in center field.
One out later, Gonzalez connected for his third homer of the season, sending a 2-2 offering into the second deck above right field.
Gray recovered to strike out a career-best 10 but couldn't protect a one-run lead, giving up a two-out, two-run single in the fifth to Gonzalez that put the Dodgers back on top 5-4.
Still, Rockies manager Walt Weiss said he liked the way Gray fought back from the rough start.
"You've got to be a tough guy to pitch here (at Coors Field) and I thought Jonny showed that tonight," Weiss said.
Gray said the choice for him was simple.
"Stay out there and get rocked or buckle down and keep the team in the game. I did my best to keep them in the game," Gray said.
The Rockies got a run in the second on Tony Wolters' bases-loaded forceout and went in front with a three-run fourth behind Arenado's home run to start the inning and Raburn's two-run shot, both off Scott Kazmir, who allowed four runs in five innings.
"I can't make any excuses," said Kazmir, who was denied in a bid for his 100th career victory. "I didn't make pitches when I needed to, especially on those two home runs."
FENCED IN
Rockies rookie Trevor Story missed a chance for his ninth home run of the season when his drive in the fifth inning bounced near the top of the newly heightened fence in right center. On top of that, he was thrown out at third on an exceptional one-hop throw from right fielder Yasiel Puig, who corralled the ball barehanded near the warning track and came up firing. Weiss later described Puig's assist as a "Superman throw," adding "I didn't think he had a chance" to throw out Story.
TRAINER'S ROOM
Dodgers: OF Carl Crawford, who is among 12 Dodgers on the DL, has made his first rehab appearance with Triple-A Oklahoma City. He's expected to make a couple more appearances with Oklahoma City over the weekend before rejoining the Dodgers on Monday. "That is the plan," Roberts said. ... Reliever Yimi Garcia was to be evaluated for a sore right biceps after having to leave his outing with a 2-1 count on Story with two outs in the seventh inning. Adam Liberatore came on to strike out Story.
Rockies: C Nick Hundley is expected to be re-examined by team doctors in the next day or two and barring any complications could return from the seven-day concussion DL. Weiss said Hundley is "close" to being reinstated.

Dodgers: RHP Kenta Maeda (2-0) has allowed one run over his first three major league starts. He's facing the Rockies for the first time.
