New York Yankees will have to wait at least another day to end their lengthy run of frustration at Camden Yards.
Wednesday night's game between the Yankees and Baltimore Orioles was postponed by rain until Thursday afternoon, when the teams will again attempt to conclude their three-game series.
The teams split the first two games of the series. After New York won the opener 7-4, the Orioles rallied from a five-run deficit for a 7-6 victory on Tuesday in a game delayed by rain for 2 hours, 14 minutes.
New York has lost 11 straight series in Baltimore since 2013. The Yankees are 10-25 at Camden Yards since the start of the 2014 season and have lost all seven games that would have clinched a series win -- including Tuesday night's stunner.
The game ended when Manny Machado hit a two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning off New York closer Dellin Betances, who took over for struggling Aroldis Chapman last month.
Betances now has six losses and three blown saves, numbers that have got manager Joe Girardi considering the possibility of returning Chapman to the stopper's role.
"I think it's something that you definitely think about," Girardi said Wednesday afternoon. "I possibly would have closed with him tonight, probably, knowing the other guys could probably use a day off.
"I've said that I really believe Chapman is going to play an important role down this stretch. We need him."
Chapman has allowed three home runs in his last eight games. He had a stretch of four consecutive outings from Aug. 11-18 in which he was scored upon. He gave up seven earned runs in 4 1/3 innings in that span, during which his ERA ballooned from 2.87 to 4.29.
Since then, Chapman has given up one earned run over 4 2/3 innings in five appearances, including a scoreless eighth inning Tuesday night.
"I definitely feel better right now and I feel more confident right now," the left-hander said through an interpreter.
David Robertson has also performed well of late, leaving Girardi with plenty to choose from in a close game.
"I've been using Dellin for the most part," Girardi said. "There's been days I've used Robby. I'm sure a lot of people would love to have my problem, to have those three guys at the back end and trying to figure out which one you're going to close with."
The Orioles, meanwhile, remain uncertain about closer Zach Britton's tender left knee. While Britton was pitching in the ninth inning Tuesday night, Mychal Givens was warming up -- just in case.
Manager Buck Showalter said his concern over Britton's knee has lessened, "but not to the point of ignorance."
The Yankees entered Wednesday trailing Boston by 3 1/2 games in the AL East and holding down the top AL wild card.
Baltimore was a game behind the Los Angeles Angels for the second wild card.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Yankees put right-hander Adam Warren on the 10-day disabled list with back spasms.
