SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Josh Collmenter outpitched Madison Bumgarner in a preview of their opening-night matchup, and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the San Francisco Giants 10-0 Tuesday.Bumgarner, the reigning World Series MVP, and Collmenter are the scheduled starters when the Giants visit Arizona on April 6 to begin the regular season.Bumgarner gave up one run and three hits in two innings, striking out three. He went to the bullpen after his outing for some additional pitches."We kept the same intensity down there. We weren't just throwing like a bullpen. We were at game speed," Bumgarner said. "Threw some pretty good ones in the game ... then threw some good ones out there. I was pretty happy with everything today."Bumgarner said he figured the opening-night game vs. Arizona was the reason for his brief appearance.Collmenter threw two-hit ball for four innings, walking none and striking out three.Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said he gave Collmenter the option of pitching in a minor league game Tuesday in order to keep the Giants from getting a preview of his stuff before the season starts."It was his choice," Hale said.Collmenter admitted to trying a different approach with the Giants hitters."I wanted to throw against these guys maybe to try a couple of different things, at least just to see them again," Collmenter said. "I just wanted to maybe throw a couple of pitches and see how they react and try not to give away too much of what I do."Allen Webster also pitched four innings and hit a three-run double.Brandon Drury homered, doubled and drove in three runs. He got hit in the left elbow with a pitch and felt numbness, but said he was fine.Drury could be playing himself into serious consideration for a major league roster spot, as he is 10 for 19 (.526) with three home runs, two doubles and eight RBIs in his last nine games."To feel like I belong here at this level feels good," he said. "Obviously I've got a lot of work to do."NICE BREAKThe Giants are 4-12-1 in spring training games with losses in five of their last six games, and manager Bruce Bochy isn't happy about it. He said Wednesday's off-day comes at a good time."It's that time where we all better start playing a little better. This is as tough a stretch as I've seen, even in the spring. We're not doing anything very well right now," Bochy said. "I'm just very thankful that we're at this point in spring training, we're not about to open the season. We're not even close to being ready."GETTING CLOSERDiamondbacks infielder Chris Owings got four at-bats, getting a hit and driving in a run. Hale gave him back-to-back games four days after his return to action from shoulder surgery. Owings will get more at-bats in minor league games, leading off in every inning of those, with the hope that he gets 50 to 60 at-bats in games before the season starts.MINOR DEALThe Giants acquired catcher Jackson Williams from the Los Angeles Angels for cash considerations.
