It's become a home away from home for the Tigers.
Yoenis Cespedes drove in three runs, Miguel Cabrera reached base four times and the Tigers continued to push Cleveland around, beating the Indians 8-5 on Monday night.
Cespedes hit an RBI double off Trevor Bauer (6-4) in the first inning, homered in the third and added a sacrifice fly in Detroit's four-run fourth as the Tigers improved to 8-2 against the Indians this season -- 4-0 in Cleveland -- and 34-14 since the start of 2013.
Detroit has won 15 of the last 18 against Cleveland and improved to 19-5 in the Indians' downtown home the past three seasons. The Tigers are 10-1 in their past 11 games on the corner of Carnegie and Ontario.
"We know we're not going to go 162-0, but mentally, maybe, we feel more comfortable in this park," Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez said. "I don't know, honestly, why everyone seems to like to hit here. I guess it's just one of those things in baseball that you can't really explain."
Cabrera walked twice, once with the bases loaded, singled twice and remained a mystery to Cleveland pitchers. He's batting .649 (24 of 37) with five homers and 16 RBI against the Indians this year.
Martinez followed the fourth-inning walk to Cabrera with a two-run single to make it 6-3.
Blaine Hardy (3-1) replaced starter Kyle Ryan in the fourth and pitched 2 1/3 hitless innings.
Detroit manager Brad Ausmus was reluctant to discuss his team's dominance against the Indians.
"I really can't answer that," he said. "I wasn't here for (one) of those seasons, so I'm not sure why it's been that way. We just seem to play well against them."
Jason Kipnis had two RBI, and David Murphy and Roberto Perez homered for the Indians.
The Tigers snapped a 3-all tie by scoring four in the fourth to chase Bauer, who matched a career worst by allowing seven runs and nine hits in three-plus innings. The quirky right-hander was coming off a strong outing against the Cubs, but struggled with an unrelenting lineup that has few holes.
Detroit loaded the bases on two singles and a walk, bringing up the dangerous Cabrera.
"He spooks me," said Indians manager Terry Francona, who joked before the game that he has even wiggled his fingers at the slugger, trying to hex him at the plate. "I've tried everything."
Bauer pitched around Cabrera, walking him to force in the go-ahead run. Martinez followed with his single to put the Tigers ahead by three. Bauer, who managed to avoid major trouble in the first two innings, was pulled and Cespedes hit a sacrifice fly off Jeff Manship.
Bauer wasn't happy with his outing, but thought the Tigers were fortunate to get a few of their hits.
"At some point, balls that are bloops are going to fall and they all just seemed to fall tonight," he said. "I think of the nine hits off me, two were hit hard."
After scoring three total runs in their three previous games, the inconsistent Indians scored three in the third to tie it at 3 on Kipnis' two-run double and Michael Brantley's RBI single.
Kipnis extended his hitting streak to a career-high 17 games. He has hit safely in 26 straight at home.
Cespedes put the Tigers up 3-0 with his 10th homer, a leadoff line drive that barely cleared the wall in right-center.
MOVING ON UP
Cabrera has taken a 1.3 million-vote lead over Kansas City's Eric Hosmer in All-Star balloting at first base. Cabrera's vote total of 9,342,149 is second overall in the AL to Royals C Salvador Perez's 10,199,151. "I even voted once for Miggy yesterday," Ausmus cracked. "If he finishes one vote ahead of Hosmer, you guys better remember that."
CENTRAL CASTING
The Tigers are 23-12 against the AL Central.
THREE FOR ALL
Tigers 3B Andrew Romine went 1 for 4 with a run and RBI in his third straight start for Nick Castellanos, who is batting .215 over his last 35 games.
TRAINER'S ROOM
Tigers: C Alex Avila (left knee), on the disabled list since May 8, is traveling with the team. Ausmus said Avila could begin a rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Toledo on Thursday.
UP NEXT
Tigers: LHP David Price tossed a seven-hitter in a 4-0 victory over the Indians on June 12. The four-time AL All-Star is 8-1 with a 2.11 ERA in 11 career starts against Cleveland, striking out 74 in 72 2/3 innings.
Indians: RHP Danny Salazar tries to remain unbeaten this season at Progressive Field, where he is 3-0 with a 3.26 ERA in five starts. He took a no-decision in his previous outing against the Cubs last Thursday.
