Giancarlo Stanton out-hit the high-scoring Colorado Rockies.
Stanton had two hits and two RBI, and Adam Conley and four relievers combined on a one-hitter to help the Marlins snap the Rockies' four-game winning streak with a 5-1 victory Friday night.
Stanton hit a two-run single with two out in the seventh for his first multiple-RBI game since May 6. He also had a scratch single and a walk in four plate appearances, raising his average to .200.
"He's looking better," manager Don Mattingly said. "Obviously it's always good to get a couple of hits. If you don't get hits, it doesn't matter how good you feel or look. He was able to drive in big runs for us, and that always makes guys feel better when they're able to contribute."
Christian Yelich put Miami ahead to stay with a two-run homer. Ichiro Suzuki had a pinch-hit single for his 2,980th career hit.
The Rockies came into the game leading the NL in batting, but Carlos Gonzalez's two-out double in the sixth was their only hit. Conley, facing the Rockies for the first time, pitched around five walks, two intentional, and allowed one run in 5 2/3 innings.
"We were trying to see what he's got," Gonzalez said. "He was throwing a lot of first-pitch strikes. He was in control and commanding his pitches, and his fastball was painting the corner. He had a good night, and we weren't able to get our offense going."
Gonzalez scored in the sixth when Conley's final pitch hit Ryan Raburn in the right foot with the bases loaded.
Miami rallied in the bottom half when Derek Dietrich singled and Yelich hit his sixth homer off Jon Gray (4-3). Those were the only runs off Gray in six innings.
"I just didn't feel really good tonight overall," Gray said. "I didn't have command. I was able to get six innings, and that's one thing I'm proud of."
Suzuki was out of the starting lineup for the Marlins' first game since he broke Pete Rose's record for hits in Japan and the majors. He was honored before the game and singled in the seventh.
Suzuki then scored from first on Martin Prado's two-out double for a 3-1 lead.
Marlins relievers retired all 10 batters they faced. Nick Wittgren (2-1) replaced Conley after Colorado took the lead, and second baseman Dietrich made a diving catch of Mark Reynolds' soft liner to prevent further damage in the sixth.
Kyle Barraclough, David Phelps and Dustin McGowan each pitched a 1-2-3 inning.
"It was an awesome effort from everyone all around," Conley said.
NL home run leader Nolan Arenado went 0 for 3 with an intentional walk for Colorado. DJ LeMahieu went 0 for 3 to end his nine-game hitting streak.
"Not the best way to start a road trip," Gonzalez said.
