GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw gave up a home run to Nick Hundley as a Colorado Rockies split squad and Los Angeles played to a 2-2 tie Tuesday.
The game was called after nine innings.Kershaw gave up three hits and one run in three innings, walking one and striking out two. Hundley homered in the third."Not great, but it was OK," Kershaw saidIt was the second spring appearance for Kershaw, the reigning NL MVP and Cy Young Award winner. The lefty, set to start on opening day for the fifth straight year, pitched two hitless innings last week against the White Sox."It was not quite as good as the first time," Kershaw said. "I had a few more misfires than the last start. But, overall, I got what I needed to get done."Rockies starter Eddie Butler threw three hitless innings, striking out three and walking one.Butler was 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA for Colorado last year after he was called up from Double-A on June 6. Over 10 innings in two starts against the Dodgers last season, Butler surrendered 18 hits."It's good to face Kershaw," Butler said. "He's a guy I want to face, because that means you're in the top end of the rotation. That's where I want to be."Andre Ethier hit an RBI single for the Dodgers and Scott Schebler homered.LOOKING UPDodger prospect Corey Seager started for the first time at shortstop. The 20-year-old, who is batting .333 this spring, has begun to generate a buzz in camp. Manager Don Mattingly raised the bar on his potential by saying Seager has John Olerud's swing and Cal Ripken's body. But Seager says he'd be happy to be like his brother, Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager."He's always been my idol," he said.TRAINER'S ROOMDodgers: Reliever Joe Peralta worked through a 23-pitch bullpen session. Peralta, acquired in a trade from Tampa Bay on Nov.20, has been troubled by shoulder stiffness since camp began. He hopes to make his first spring appearance Friday night against Cincinnati. ... Alex Guerrero is scheduled to play as a reserve left-fielder Wednesday against the Cubs. He missed the last two games with some discomfort in his left hand. Guerrero, originally a shortstop, is also expected to play at third base and second. He's got six hits, including a homer, in nine at-bats this spring.UP NEXTRockies: Christian Bergman gets his second spring start Wednesday against the Mariners. Bergman was 3-5 with a 5.93 ERA last season.Dodgers: Zack Greinke gets his first spring start Wednesday against the Cubs in Mesa. Greinke, the No. 2 starter, got an injection of a lubricating agent in his right elbow when camp opened on Feb. 19. The right-hander has been bothered by discomfort in the elbow during the last two seasons. He says he's on track for the season's start.
